Abuse Comes in Many Forms

Last night I spoke at the Wesley Foundation at West Texas A&M University. There were a number of students there listening attentively as I spoke of the abuse the main character of my book, "Nan's Journey", endured. Although I know that there are a great many people who have suffered physical abuse, I became aware a few years ago that verbal abuse is very damaging to people too. I had always heard the old saying that "words can never hurt me" and felt confused when the words indeed did hurt me. I thought I should "get a thicker skin" so that the mental pounding I took wouldn't get to me.
While I am thankful that I never suffered the physical abuse, the harsh words took a very long time to heal from. At times I still hear those words in my head, but with the Lord's help, I can move past it. I have to move past it!

Step away from abusive relationships. Go where it is safe!

  1. Mom, you did and amazing job speaking into the lives of my peeps'. They really looked up to you and you were able to say things that only a special speaker could to have as much impact as they did. There are so many broken people in this world, we are all cracked in one way or another, and i believe that this loving caring touch from our Savior can heal a multitude of wounds. I believe that as Jesus is inside of us, when we hug people in the name of Christ, it is as if Jesus himself is hugging that person and listening to that person. So as you prayed over the broken people from all walks of life at the Wesley, I believe as they felt, that it was Jesus hugging and caring for them. Thank you so much. We love you so much.

  2. I was given the opportunity to listen on CD to Nan's Journey by my friend, and Elain's sister's -in-law, Karen Littau. I found it to be very good! I hated to get out of my car and turn off my CD. It kept my interest and I can't wait for the sequel. I have questions left to be answered by the sequel.. It is apparent God had a plan for you as a writer and I for one am glad he did. I have since bought 2 books to pass around my family and friends! Once again Thanks and I can't wait for your next book, when can I expect it?

  3. Chris,
Thank you for the kind words. I do have the sequel written. We are waiting for the right time to submit it to Tate Publishing. I need to get more copies sold so that they see that there is a clear demand for these books. I am also thrilled that you are sharing the books with your family. The message is the thing. Please take care and know I am praying for you and all of the readers.
